For decades this storefront near 108th Street was Absolute Bagels, and when it closed at the end of 2024 the neighborhood took it personally. A new team reopened it in December 2025, hired back many of the old staff and said they were using the same recipe; a name dispute later turned it into 2788 Bagels, after the street number.

The bagels are small, dense and craggy, baked throughout the day, so the odds of a warm one are good. Get an everything or sesame with scallion cream cheese, or a cinnamon raisin if you grew up on this block. The room is brighter than the old one, and it takes cards now.

Editor’s tip

Take it untoasted if it's warm, and walk it over to Riverside Park.
