CHINATOWN, MANHATTAN

Bánh Mì Cô Út

Six kinds of pork in one baguette, from a cash-only window on Elizabeth Street.

A takeout window on Elizabeth Street with no seats and a lunchtime line, and one of the last places in Chinatown where a bánh mì is still cheap. The sandwiches are cut in half and wrapped tight so you can eat them on the move.

The classic is six kinds of pork in one baguette: three cold cuts, pâté, pork belly and a fluff of pork floss, cooled with pickles and herbs. If you are hungrier, there is a pâté sandwich topped with a sunny-side-up egg, and versions with fish cake, tofu or grilled beef meatballs.
