ASTORIA, QUEENS
Barkada Social Club
An Astoria Filipino social club — sinigang wings, chicken inasal, pork-belly kare-kare and an ube espresso martini at a shared table.
Barkada is Tagalog for your crew — the friends you go everywhere with — and Giemay Manuel, who grew up in Astoria and in her parents' kitchen at Kabayan in Woodside, opened this Broadway room in April 2025 to make one. The host may ask whether you mind sharing a table; there are card games on it to break the ice, and karaoke most Thursdays. Within a year it was on Eater's list of the best new restaurants in Queens.
The food is Filipino-American bar food done with care. Sinigang wings carry the sour tamarind of the soup as a dry rub; the 'Dynamite' is a spring roll packed with serrano pepper, cheese and ground chicken. For something bigger there is lechon kawali, a pork-belly kare-kare, chicken inasal off the grill and a kaldereta beef stew. Drink an ube espresso martini or a calamansi margarita.
Editor’s tip
Say yes to the shared table, order sinigang wings and chicken inasal, and stay for karaoke.
