FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
Black Forest Brooklyn
Boots of lager, pretzels and properly good schnitzel a short walk from BAM.

IllustrationA big, easygoing German bar on Fulton Street, a short walk from BAM, with lager by the two-liter boot, room for groups, and the big game on a projector. There is a second location on Smith Street, but this one sits right on the walk between the park and the theaters, and each fall it hosts an Oktoberfest.
The food is better than it needs to be. Get a pretzel at minimum, then the thin, craggy schnitzel with long, pan-seared spätzle, or the Wurstkorb, a sausage in a pretzel bun. For a crowd, the German Family Feast covers the table, and the BFB Bierkranz brings a ring of thirteen different pours.
Editor’s tip
Before a show at BAM, a pretzel and a lager here is a quick, reliable pre-theater meal.
