Buunni Coffee (Inwood)
Uptown's own roaster — Ethiopian-rooted coffee in a roomy Broadway café a few blocks from Inwood Hill Park.
Buunni began in 2012 as a tiny shop on Pinehurst Avenue, opened by Sarina Prabasi and Elias Gurmu, who met in Ethiopia; the name comes from the Amharic word for coffee's color. The Inwood café on Broadway came later, a roomier space on Broadway at the northern end of the neighborhood.
The coffee is the point: the house blend pairs Ethiopian and Latin American beans, roasted by Buunni itself, and the Ethiopian single origins are worth ordering black. There is a short café menu of pastries and sandwiches. It is a good first stop before a walk in Inwood Hill Park.
Editor’s tip
Order an Ethiopian single origin as a pour-over, then take it into Inwood Hill Park.
