IllustrationColonia Verde takes its cue from the hearth of a Latin American finca, and it unfolds like one — cave-like front rooms, a greenhouse, and a backyard strung with lights where a table can easily become the whole evening. The menu leans Brazilian and Mexican, and the cocktails lean on tequila and mezcal.
Order the shrimp tacos, folded into soft flour tortillas with avocado and refried beans, and the salted peewee potatoes with spicy mayo. Crispy pork belly in salsa verde and picanha with farofa round out a table. About once a month the Sunday Asado series hands the backyard grill to visiting chefs.
Editor’s tip
Ask for the backyard on a warm night, order a second round of shrimp tacos, and check the site for the next Sunday Asado.
