FLUSHING, QUEENS

Eight Jane Food

A two-person Main Street stall making jianbing, the egg-and-cruller breakfast crepe, from the morning on.

Flushing's best breakfast is eaten standing up. This tiny Main Street stall has room for two or three people at the counter and no printed menu, just a griddle and a steady line for jianbing — the northern Chinese breakfast crepe, heavy on egg, brushed with sauce and folded around a shard of crisp fried dough.

Order the classic jianbing and, if they have not sold out, a youtiao cruller to dip or carry. Take it to the sidewalk and eat it while it is still crackling. The stall keeps morning-to-afternoon hours, so come early.

Editor’s tip

Go before 10 a.m., when the youtiao are still on hand and the line is shortest.
