LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS

Jora

LIC's Peruvian anchor since 2014 — serious ceviche, better lomo saltado, and pisco sours worth lingering over.

Jora has been Long Island City's Peruvian anchor since 2014, a warm, wood-and-stone room near the Vernon Boulevard strip where the pisco program is taken as seriously as the kitchen. Ceviche mixto arrives bright with leche de tigre, the lomo saltado is among the better versions in the city, and the bar's pisco sours — classic or infused — are the reason tables linger.

It reads more special than its prices suggest, which makes it the neighborhood's default for birthdays and date nights that don't want Manhattan formality. The back patio, when open, is one of LIC's gentler places to finish a bottle.

Editor’s tip

Start with the ceviche mixto and a classic pisco sour before anything else gets decided.
