DUMBO, BROOKLYN

Juliana's Pizza

Patsy Grimaldi's coal-oven homecoming under the Brooklyn Bridge — the margherita that settles arguments.

Juliana's is the best comeback story in New York pizza: Patsy Grimaldi, who first fired this coal oven at 19 Old Fulton Street in 1990, came out of retirement in 2012 to reclaim his original space — next door to the Grimaldi's that now carries his old name — and named the new room for his mother. The classic margherita, thin and coal-charred, settles most arguments about where to eat under the Brooklyn Bridge.

The room is simple — checked floor, photos of old Brooklyn, the oven glowing at the back — and the line outside moves faster than it looks. Time it right and you walk out with the bridge overhead and the harbor going gold, which is as good as a dessert course gets.
