L&B has been making its Sicilian square on 86th Street in deep south Brooklyn since 1939, and the order there has never changed: a thick, airy square with the cheese underneath and the tomato sauce spread on top, then a cup of spumoni. This offshoot on Old Fulton Street, a few steps from the Brooklyn Bridge, brings the same square to the waterfront.

Skip the round pies and order squares — a couple per person — and finish with the house spumoni. If you have a free afternoon and want the full ritual, the 86th Street original with its outdoor patio is the pilgrimage; this is the version you can fold into a walk across the bridge.

Editor’s tip

Order squares, not rounds, and save room for spumoni.
