EAST VILLAGE, MANHATTAN
Lê Phin
A Vietnamese phin coffee bar on East 10th Street — cà phê sữa đá and house-made pandan lattes.
Kim Lê trained as a professional coffee grader before she opened this small East 10th Street café in 2022, and it shows in the cup. White brick, pale wood, fresh flowers, and a lot of light on a sunny morning; it is a popular place to settle in with a laptop.
The house drink is Vietnamese cà phê phin, slow-dripped and strong, iced over condensed milk as cà phê sữa đá if you want it the Saigon way. The lattes are flavored with Vietnamese pantry staples — pandan syrup made in-house, and seasonal turns with lotus, kumquat, sesame or starfruit. A croissant or scone is the only food you need.
Editor’s tip
Order a cà phê sữa đá and a pandan latte to compare, then carry them a block east into Tompkins Square Park.
