EAST VILLAGE, MANHATTAN

Ngon Vietnamese Kitchen

A Dallas Bib Gourmand's East Village outpost — bún riêu, bún bò Huế and Hanoi egg coffee.

Carol Nguyễn's Hanoi-rooted kitchen built its name in Dallas, where Michelin's inspectors gave it a Bib Gourmand, and in the summer of 2026 it took the two-level corner of Second Avenue and Fifth Street, the one with the flowering vines, with a small bar on the ground floor.

The New York menu reads like a tour of the country's noodle soups. Phở Hà Nội comes with beef or chicken, bún bò Huế with its lemongrass heat, and — added for New York — bún riêu, the crab-and-tomato soup that is hard to find in this city. Bún chả Hà Nội is here too. Finish with cà phê trứng, Hanoi's egg coffee, yolk and condensed milk whipped into a custardy foam over strong coffee, or the sticky black-rice yogurt, sữa chua nếp cẩm, when they have it.

Editor’s tip

Order the bún riêu — it is the dish New York rarely gets — and end with egg coffee instead of dessert.
