FLUSHING, QUEENS

Nong Geng Ji

A Hunan group's first US dining room — pepper pork stir-fry and tea-oil chicken, family-style over rice.

Hunan food is about smoke, chili and sourness rather than Sichuan's numbing tingle, and it has long been underrepresented in New York. Nong Geng Ji, a Hunan restaurant group founded in 2017 with more than a hundred restaurants across China, Southeast Asia and Canada, chose Flushing for its first American dining room in January 2026.

The menu leans on the dishes that built the brand at home: pepper pork stir-fry with a real bite, free-range chicken stir-fried in tea oil, snowflake beef, and rice cooked with sweet potato. Order family-style and eat everything over rice, the way the cooking intends.

Editor’s tip

Order the pepper pork stir-fry and the tea-oil chicken with plenty of rice.
