GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN

Oxomoco

Wood-fired Mexican under a Greenpoint skylight — a Michelin star that still feels like a neighborhood dinner.

Oxomoco earned Greenpoint's first Michelin star within months of opening in 2018, cooking wood-fired Mexican food in a skylit, whitewashed room strung with greenery. Everything meaningful passes through the hearth — tacos and tostadas built on house-ground masa, charred vegetables, whole fish — alongside one of north Brooklyn's better mezcal and tequila lists.

A kitchen fire paused things in 2025; the room came back a month later with the fire, so to speak, fully back in charge. It remains that rare starred restaurant that works as a loose, loud neighborhood dinner — and the weekend brunch, all smoke and citrus, is the gentler way in.

Editor’s tip

Order whatever the hearth is doing to vegetables that week — it's the quiet best part of the menu.
