MURRAY HILL, QUEENS

Parksanbal

A one-dish lunch counter: slow-simmered beef-bone gukbap, spicy or not, with rice and banchan.

A tiny, cafeteria-plain room on 162nd Street that does one thing. The thing is gukbap — beef-bone soup with rice — and the kitchen keeps it on the stove for hours, until a big bone comes to the table with the meat sliding off it.

Choose spicy or not; the spicy version is warm rather than fierce, and it is the one to get. The bowl comes with cellophane noodles, a few banchan and rice to tip in as you go. It is a lunch place, quick and quiet, and the sort of meal that makes the rest of the afternoon go better.

Editor’s tip

Get the spicy version and tip the rice into the broth halfway through.
