BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN

Roberta's

The 2008 Moore Street pizzeria that put Bushwick on the dining map — order the Bee Sting with honey and chili.

When Roberta's opened on a bleak block of Moore Street in 2008, there was not much else out here but warehouses and the L train. It helped start the city's new wave of wood-fired, Neapolitan-leaning pizza, and it became the restaurant people mean when they say Bushwick — a big back room, outdoor seating, and tables of families and friends.

The pie to know is the Bee Sting: tomato, mozzarella, soppressata, chili and a drizzle of honey, sweet heat on a blistered crust. Start with a salad or house-cured meats for the table, and leave room for soft serve. Roberta's now has outposts from Domino Park to Los Angeles, but this is the original, and it still feels like it.

Editor’s tip

Go on a weekday evening, get the Bee Sting and one other pie for two, and sit in the back if there's room.
