SaRanRom Thai
Bib Gourmand Thai on Broadway — crisp catfish with green mango, and a menu that reaches north and south.
This stretch of Broadway, a few steps from the Elmhurst Avenue station, is the heart of Thai Elmhurst. SaRanRom took over the cozy room that once held Paet Rio and kept its warmth, and the menu runs dizzyingly long: curries, fried rices, salads and stir-fries, with detours into the north and the south that most Thai menus in the city never take.
The Michelin inspectors single out yum pla duk — catfish fried into a crisp, airy weave and heaped with a sour green mango salad — and miang kha-na, a starter of lime rind, pork and peanuts. Reported regional dishes include nam ngiao, the northern noodle soup of pork ribs, tomato and blood, and a southern minced pork fired with yellow curry paste. Michelin gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the New York Times put it on its 2026 list of the city's best restaurants.
Editor’s tip
Order the yum pla duk for the table, then pick one dish from the northern or southern pages.
