EAST VILLAGE, MANHATTAN
Soothr
Thai noodle house on 13th Street — khao soi with sai ua sausage and a pork-blood boat-noodle soup.
Soothr is a noodle house first, and the East Village room on 13th Street fills for the bowls. Its strength is the north: khao soi, the curry noodle soup of Chiang Mai, comes several ways here, including the version crowned with sai ua, the herb-heavy northern sausage, and another with crisp-skinned chicken.
For something darker, nam tok moo is the pork-blood noodle soup with thin rice noodles that Bangkok's boat-noodle stalls are known for, and the seafood tom yum noodles bring the sour and the heat. A seasonal chef's specials list rotates through the year. The MICHELIN Guide has listed Soothr every year since 2021, and there is now a second location in Long Island City.
Editor’s tip
Order the khao soi sai ua and one bowl of nam tok moo to share — one gentle, one deep.
