ELMHURST, QUEENS
Summer
Elmhurst's best bánh mì, with caramelized pork and chả lụa, from a Grand Avenue counter.
A small counter on Grand Avenue with a menu that wanders — Taiwanese popcorn chicken, ramen, rice plates — but the reason to stop is the Vietnamese sandwich, which the Infatuation calls the best bánh mì in Elmhurst.
Ask for the classic. The baguette is flaky; inside are caramelized crumbled pork, buttery chả lụa, cucumber, pickled carrot and daikon, and cilantro. It is a takeout operation at heart, so eat it walking back toward Broadway.
Editor’s tip
One classic bánh mì, eaten on the walk to the Thai and Indonesian kitchens a few blocks away.
