PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN

Sushi Katsuei

Park Slope's original Edomae omakase counter, open on Seventh Avenue since 2014.

Katsuei opened on Seventh Avenue in 2014 and has been Park Slope's answer to Manhattan omakase ever since — in a plain, clean room where the attention goes to the fish.

The cooking is Edomae: seasoned rice, aged and marinated fish, and an omakase in two shapes — sushi only, or sushi and sashimi. Sit at the counter if you can. A sister restaurant opened in the West Village in 2017, but this is the original.

Editor’s tip

Choose the sushi-and-sashimi omakase and a counter seat.
