NOLITA, MANHATTAN
Thai Diner
Uncle Boons' all-day successor in Nolita — Thai tea babka French toast, khao soi and a coconut sundae.
Ann Redding and Matt Danzer ran Uncle Boons, a Michelin-starred Nolita basement, until it closed in 2020; Thai Diner, on the corner of Mott and Kenmare, opened that February and became its bright, all-day successor. It is part Thai kitchen, part American diner, and it is busy from breakfast on.
Mornings are for Thai tea babka French toast and an egg sandwich wrapped in roti with pork sausage. Later, order the khao soi with chicken, a papaya salad with steak and peanuts, and stuffed cabbage in tom kha. The coconut sundae is carried over from Uncle Boons, and the disco fries come smothered in massaman curry.
Editor’s tip
Come for a weekday breakfast, order the babka French toast for the table and a khao soi for yourself.
