The Dead Rabbit
The Irish bar that was named the world's best — a taproom downstairs and a cocktail parlor above, on Water Street.
Two Belfast bartenders, Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry, opened this bar in an old building on Water Street in 2013, and within three years it had been named the best bar in the world. It still runs on two floors: a pub-style taproom on the ground floor, and upstairs the Parlor, a dark, old-New-York cocktail room.
Downstairs, order an Irish coffee and a pint. Upstairs, take a seat in the Parlor for the cocktails — some still arrive in little teacups. It is the right last stop after a walk through the old streets, ten minutes from Stone Street and the ferry.
Editor’s tip
Start with an Irish coffee in the taproom, then go upstairs to the Parlor for a proper cocktail.
