WOODSIDE, QUEENS

Tito Rad's Grill

A Filipino Sunday lunch on Queens Boulevard — crispy pata, citrusy pork-belly sisig, ukoy and halo-halo.

Tito Rad's sits at the western edge of Woodside, where Queens Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue pull apart, well before the Little Manila blocks begin. It is a sit-down room with close to nine hundred Yelp reviews behind it, and a menu that reads like a Filipino family's Sunday lunch.

The order is crispy pata: a whole pork knuckle, deep-fried until the skin shatters, served with a vinegar-and-garlic dip. The sisig here is made from pork belly and brightened with citrus, the ukoy — crisp bean-sprout fritters — are worth a side, and there is grilled tuna belly for the fish-minded. Leave room for halo-halo.

Editor’s tip

One crispy pata feeds three or four as part of a spread — add sisig and ukoy and share everything.
