PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN
Winner
Daniel Eddy's bakery counter — breads, sandwiches, and rotisserie chicken that reorganized Park Slope mornings.
Daniel Eddy opened Winner on Seventh Avenue in March 2020 — days before the city shut down — and the bakery answered the moment so well it became a small Park Slope institution. The counter moves from morning pastry and proper loaves through serious lunch sandwiches, with rotisserie chickens and prepared things to carry home for dinner.
It stays a takeout counter at heart, with a little outdoor seating when you're lucky, and the line down the block most weekend mornings is its own neighborhood ritual. The operation has since spread along the avenue — a wine bar, a butcher, a Prospect Park outpost — but the original bakery is the one worth planning a morning around.
Editor’s tip
Go before 10 on a weekend for the full pastry case, then carry it two blocks uphill to Prospect Park.
