Yedang
Made-to-order Korean rice cakes and red-bean bingsu at a Northern Boulevard tteok house in Bayside.
Yedang is a rice-cake house before it is a café: tteok made to order for first birthdays, weddings and gifts, alongside hangwa, the traditional Korean confections. The shop on the corner of Northern Boulevard and 210th Street is also a café, and that is where the bingsu comes in.
Order a bingsu — snowy shaved milk ice heaped with sweet red beans, with injeolmi (soybean-dusted rice cake) or jujube — and a few pieces of tteok from the case. It is a quiet, sweet place for an afternoon, and the right stop if you are carrying a gift to a Korean household.
Editor’s tip
Order the patbingsu with injeolmi to share, and take home a box of tteok.
