IllustrationLess a cafeteria than an overachieving lunch counter, run by a couple who started out catering on an island in Canada. Everything tastes homemade because it is: the menu changes often, the focaccia is baked here, and even the potato sticks on the sandwiches are fried in the kitchen.
If the roast beef is on, get it — rosy beef on sesame focaccia with watercress, lemony horseradish cream and those crunchy house potato sticks. A dill-heavy chicken noodle soup or a parmesan-rich bean soup does the rest. Split dessert at the front window: the small maple tart is richer than it looks.
Editor’s tip
Come at lunch, ask whether the roast beef is on, and save room for the maple tart.
