Cervo's opened on Canal Street in the summer of 2017 as a downtown ode to the seafood of Spain and Portugal, and it has become the room that anchors this corner of the Lower East Side: a long bar up front, a skylit dining room in back, and sidewalk tables for watching the neighborhood go by in warm months.

Start with crispy shrimp heads and Manila clams in vinho verde, then the lamb burger, with a marinated anchovy on top if you like. The half chicken with piri piri and fries is the quiet hit. The wine list leans coastal Iberian, and the vermouth flows steadily.

Editor’s tip

Book about a week ahead for the back room, or walk in early for a seat outside from spring to fall.
