LOWER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN
Hoy! Filipino Street Food
A new Filipino street-food counter at Houston and Clinton — ube lattes, calamansi cinnamon rolls and Arellano Pandesal pastries.
Hoy is Filipino for 'hey', and Cyed Adraincem's new counter on the corner of Houston and Clinton, in the old Biga Bite pizza space, is built to feel like a night market. The plan is fast-casual Filipino street food — lumpia and skewers at the center — at diner-style seats in a deliberately loud, colorful room.
For now it is still finding its feet in a soft opening, and the best reason to stop is the café side: an ube latte sweetened with condensed milk, a calamansi lemonade, and a cinnamon roll glazed with calamansi and raw sugar, alongside pastries from Arellano Pandesal, the Queens ensaymada bakers.
Editor’s tip
Get the calamansi cinnamon roll with an ube latte, and ask whether the lumpia are on yet.
