LOWER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN

Little Pine

Northeastern Chinese cooking on Division Street — crisp guo bao rou, barbecue skewers and pickled-cabbage pork.

Dongbei — China's cold northeast — cooks for winter: pickled cabbage, long stews, wheat, and a sweet-and-sour pork unlike any other. Little Pine opened in June 2026 in a long space running from Division Street through to East Broadway, with a kitchen led by a chef who has cooked Dongbei food for more than twenty years.

The dish to order is guo bao rou: thin pork slices fried crisp and glazed sweet and tart. Around it, the barbecue skewers — lamb, beef, chicken wings — the tiger herb salad, handmade dumplings, pork belly with pickled cabbage and a one-pot stew. Bring friends; the room is built for them.

Editor’s tip

Order the guo bao rou and a round of lamb skewers first, then the pork belly with pickled cabbage.
