Peaches
Shrimp and grits, granola-crusted French toast and a loud, happy brunch on Lewis Avenue.

IllustrationPeaches has been a Lewis Avenue anchor for years — a classic neighborhood restaurant that takes its cooking from the American South, where Marietta Cade, the Peaches of the name, was born and raised. On any given night the room holds couples, families with kids and tables of friends, with the music up.
Brunch is the big draw. Order the shrimp and grits made with white wine, scallions and mushrooms, or the granola-crusted French toast with berries, and add a boneless fried chicken thigh. Blackened catfish and turkey meatloaf hold down the rest of the menu. Portions are generous; the Crystal hot sauce is on every table.
Editor’s tip
Go for weekend brunch, order the French toast with a chicken thigh for the table, and walk the brownstone blocks of Stuyvesant Heights after.
