Scarr's mills its own grain, and you can taste it: the thin crust has a faint yeastiness and real wheat flavor that most slice-shop dough never gets near. It moved into a bigger Orchard Street storefront in recent years, with a back room where you can sit down over a whole pie.

Stick to the thin round slices over the squares. Plain shows off the crust; pepperoni is the regular's order; the Hot Boi — pepperoni, jalapeños and a drizzle of hot honey — is for when you want some heat. Come with a friend or two and take a full pie in the back.

Editor’s tip

Skip the squares and order thin slices — a plain and a pepperoni — then decide whether you need a third.
