SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN

Yun Nan Flavour Garden

Yunnan in Sunset Park — crossing-the-bridge rice noodles assembled at the table, and sharp cold rice noodles.

Yunnan, in China's far southwest, cooks with citrus, herbs and rice noodles, and this family-run spot on Eighth Avenue, from a couple from Kunming, has been the city's easiest introduction to it for years. It is small, inexpensive and mostly about one dish.

That dish is guoqiao mixian, crossing-the-bridge noodles, which arrives in parts: raw slices of beef or lamb, vegetables, a heap of rice noodles and a very hot, fragrant chicken broth that cooks everything at the table. The cold rice noodles under ground pork, chili and peanuts are the other order, and the pork dumplings in hot-and-sour soup are worth adding.

Editor’s tip

Order the crossing-the-bridge noodles and add the meat the moment the broth lands.
