Kestane Kebab has been feeding Greenpoint since 2009, first on Nassau Avenue and, since 2020, from this corner of Franklin and Huron Streets, in a space that once held Ramen Mafia and, before that, the neighborhood's Greek spot Mr. Souvlaki. It is a Turkish and Mediterranean kitchen in the fast-casual mold: a counter, a grill, a handful of seats and a long menu that runs from kebab plates and wraps to soups and desserts. Franklin Street has filled up with wine bars and boutiques, and Kestane is a welcome counterweight, an unfussy independent where the smell of the grill drifts out onto the sidewalk and regulars greet the staff by name.

New York Turk stopped in for a solo dinner in 2026, and it is easy to see why the place appeals to anyone who loves Turkish food. Start with the halal kofte kebab or the chicken shish, both named when the Franklin Street shop opened, and add the baked eggplant or falafel if you are sharing. The chicken doner is wrapped with lettuce, tomato, onion and both hot and white sauces, a good order to carry to the waterfront a few blocks west. The menu also includes soups, seafood and desserts. Kestane delivers across north Brooklyn and western Queens, but the food is best eaten here, straight off the grill.

Editor’s tip

Take your kofte wrap three blocks west to the Transmitter Park pier for a sunset view of Midtown.
