The Fine Dining Room

Prix fixe · Tasting menus · Rooms worth dressing for

Where New York dresses up for dinner: the grand prix fixe rooms, the intimate tasting counters and the great à la carte splurges, with every menu format and what it costs, checked on the restaurants' own pages.

Prix fixe

A set number of courses at a set price, with a choice at each course. It is the classic way into rooms like Le Bernardin and Daniel, and usually the shorter evening.

Tasting menu

The kitchen decides. One price covers a long run of courses, and it is often prepaid when you book. Plan on three hours, sometimes more.

Bar & salon

Shorter menus in the same building: Le Bernardin's lounge, Per Se's salon, the bar at Eleven Madison Park. They are the gentlest way to try a famous kitchen.

These are the rooms New York saves for anniversaries, proposals and the dinners people talk about for years. Some are grand dining rooms with captains and carts; some are a dozen seats around an open kitchen. In most of them you choose a format, not a dish, and the price is set before you sit down; the last section is for the steakhouses and grand cafés where you order freely and the bill still lands in the same place.

We list each menu the restaurants publish, with the price per person as it appeared on their own pages in October 2026. Those prices are before tax and tip, and drinks are extra. A wine pairing can add $135 to $530 a person. Menus and prices change with the seasons, so check the official page before you book.

Before you book

  • Prices are per person, before New York's 8.875% sales tax and before tip, unless a restaurant says otherwise. Drinks and wine pairings are extra.
  • Most tasting menus are prepaid or take a deposit when you book, and many deposits are non-refundable. Read the cancellation terms first.
  • Some restaurants add a service charge or administrative fee instead of expecting a tip. It is usually stated on the booking page.
  • Dress codes run from "no dress code" to jackets strongly suggested. When in doubt, a jacket is never wrong in these rooms.
  • Menus and prices change with the seasons. Every figure here was checked on the restaurant's own page or booking page on October 15, 2026.
