WOODSIDE, QUEENS
Mis Tierras Colombianas
A Colombian asadero under the 7 — bandeja paisa, cazuela de mariscos and fútbol on the projector.
Under the elevated tracks of the 7, Roosevelt Avenue becomes a long Latin American main street, and this Colombian asadero is one of its busiest stops. Rotisserie chickens turn in the window, the dining room is big enough for three generations at once, and when Colombia plays, the match goes up on a projector and nobody leaves.
Come hungry for the bandeja paisa, the Antioquian platter of beans, rice, chicharrón, ground beef, chorizo, egg, plantain and arepa. The cazuela de mariscos — a creamy seafood stew — is the other big order, and a quarter rotisserie chicken with rice, beans and plantains is the lunch move. Weekends bring a line, but the room turns quickly.
Editor’s tip
One bandeja paisa feeds two moderate appetites — add a cazuela de mariscos and share both.
