The Eighty Six is a West Village steakhouse in the former Chumley's, the Prohibition-era space at 86 Bedford Street that the restaurant credits as the birthplace of the kitchen term "86." Chef Michael Vignola leads the kitchen, and the dining room, finished with Art Deco details, has only ten tables.

Beef comes directly from small independent ranches and is butchered and aged in-house beneath the century-old bar. The menu lists a 30-day dry-aged Delmonico, a bone-in wagyu New York strip and a porterhouse for two, alongside a raw bar, Dover sole and classic steakhouse cocktails made from scratch. A smart elegant dress code applies.

Editor’s tip

Walk-ins are seated only from cancellations, so arrive right at the 4pm opening for the best chance; tables max out at four guests.
