Most people cross Grand Central's Main Concourse without seeing much beyond the clock and the ceiling. The terminal's official tour, run by Walks, takes groups of no more than 20 into the rest of it: Vanderbilt Hall, a 1920s tycoon's onetime office, the Oyster Bar, the terminal's police station, a former movie theater that now sells wine, Track 34 and the Whispering Gallery, where you can trade secrets across the tiled arches. It is a specific, well-told story of how the building shaped the city around it.

The 90-minute tour is given in English and meets at the Tour Information Booth in the Main Concourse; prices start at $35 as of October 2026. Book through the link on the terminal's own website rather than through resellers, whose prices and cancellation rules vary, and arrive a few minutes early. Mid-morning tours avoid the commuter crush. Private tours can be arranged by email, and the New York Transit Museum's Gallery & Store inside the terminal makes an easy coda.
