BEDFORD–STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN
Saturday Jazz at Sistas' Place
A Bed-Stuy community coffeehouse where Saturday nights mean a serious jazz band and a room of regulars.

Sistas' Place is a community-run coffeehouse on Nostrand Avenue in Bed-Stuy that has presented jazz on Saturday nights for decades, with a mission rooted in Black cultural and political life in Brooklyn. The bands are serious, often led by veterans of the New York scene, and the audience is mostly neighborhood regulars who have been coming for years. It feels like a family gathering that happens to have a first-rate quartet at the front of the room.
Check the event pages on the official site for the coming Saturday; each lists the band and the reservation phone number, and reserving ahead is advised. Payment at the door has been cash, so bring it. There are usually two sets in an evening, and staying for both is the move. Arrive a little early, be ready to share a table, and treat it as a guest in someone's living room would: quiet during the music, conversation in between.
