Woodlawn Cemetery in the northern Bronx is a Level II arboretum with more than 6,000 trees and an outdoor gallery of Gilded Age mausoleums built by the city's richest families. It is also the resting place of an extraordinary roll of New Yorkers, including Madam C.J. Walker and A'Lelia Walker, Dorothy Parker, Miles Davis and Cicely Tyson, along with veterans of every American conflict back to the Revolution. The Woodlawn Conservancy turns all of that into a seasonal calendar of public trolley and walking tours led by historians and authors.

Public tours run in spring, summer and fall, and most need reservations through the Conservancy's site. The late-October 2026 calendar includes the evening Illuminated Mausoleums walk, a free Where Harlem Rests trolley tour with project historian Eric K. Washington on October 31, a fall-foliage trolley ride (already full) and a Veterans Day walk among World War I graves. Popular tours sell out, so join the mailing list. The 4 train's Woodlawn stop and Metro-North's Woodlawn station are both close to the gates.
