Date Night in Fort Greene: Romantic Restaurants and Bars (2026)
A kaiseki counter in a townhouse, a storybook bistro on DeKalb, steak frites facing the park and a whisky bar behind a raw bar — where to take a date in Fort Greene, from dinner to the last glass.
12 restaurants

Fort Greene's date nights begin on the brownstone blocks around Fort Greene Park. DeKalb Avenue is the restaurant row — Miss Ada, Sailor, Roman's, Colonia Verde, Walter's — while the side streets toward Lafayette and Myrtle avenues hold a tea-room counter in a townhouse, a candlelit patio for pasta and a handful of small natural-wine bars. The best evenings here are unhurried: an early table, then a loop of the park as it gets dark, or a patio seat facing it with a plate of steak frites.
The picks below run in order: somewhere to celebrate, a long dinner near the park, then one more glass. Booking varies more than you might expect. Most of the restaurants take Resy or OpenTable reservations, a few released about two weeks out, while bar seats, sidewalk cafés and the wine bars are kept for walk-ins, and one wine bar takes no reservations at all. The G at Clinton–Washington Avs or Fulton St and the C at Lafayette Av put everything here within about ten minutes' walk.
For a celebration
A kaiseki counter, a storybook bistro and two rooms from the same chef, for the dinners you plan ahead.

The seasonal kaiseki menu, after tea in the garden
Ikigai · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
Dinner starts with kombucha in the backyard of a Fort Greene townhouse, made over as a Japanese tea room, before you move to a twelve-seat counter of wood from pale to charred. The kaiseki menu follows the season, with Polish touches from the chef's heritage, and proceeds go to fighting food insecurity. Save it for an anniversary, book on Resy and arrive a little early.
- 02
Caesar, butterflied branzino and the roast chicken
Sailor · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
April Bloomfield and Gabriel Stulman's DeKalb Avenue bistro has little table lamps and schooner paintings, and since 2025 an oak-paneled tavern room next door with brass lamps and a model ship. The menu changes often; look for the heavily dressed caesar, the butterflied branzino and the garlic-herb roast chicken. Tables release on OpenTable two weeks ahead, and most tavern bar seats are held for walk-ins.
- 03
Hummus, labneh and the grilled vegetables
Miss Ada · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
Tomer Blechman's corner room on DeKalb has been booked steadily since 2017, and it is the neighborhood's date restaurant without ever acting like one. The modern Israeli cooking runs through the Greenmarket: order the silken hummus and the labneh, then build most of the meal from the grilled vegetables. Resy opens fourteen days out, and the bar and sidewalk café take walk-ins.
- 04
Za'atar kubaneh, striped bass ceviche and the Aristaeus
Theodora · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
Blechman's second room, down the hill from Miss Ada, is built around fish and fire: dry-aged fish from an open kitchen, natural wine and the warm, low look of a mid-century cave. Tear into the za'atar kubaneh, then the ceviche with charred pineapple and a grilled branzino or trout. Order the Aristaeus, made with tequila, honey and feta. Book on Resy, or take a bar seat.
A long dinner near the park
Pasta on a patio, a menu rewritten daily and a string-lit backyard: dinners that run long.
- 05
The day's pasta and a negroni
Roman's · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
Andrew Tarlow's small, burnished room a block from Fort Greene Park has rewritten its Italian menu every day since 2009, so the farms decide the pasta and the negroni variations rotate on their own schedule. Check the day's menu online before you go and take an early table, when the kitchen is calmest. Book on Resy or walk in, then loop the park at dusk.
- 06
Smoky spaghetti with Calabrian chile and hazelnuts
LaRina Pastificio & Vino · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
Named for the grandmother of two of its owners, LaRina on Myrtle Avenue makes its pasta every day and pours a mostly natural wine list. In warm months the back patio of ivy, tile and candlelight is the reason to come. Split two pastas, one of them the smoky spaghetti with chile and crunchy hazelnuts, and finish with the salted caramel panna cotta. Reserve on Resy.
- 07
Shrimp tacos and picanha with farofa
Colonia Verde · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
Cave-like front rooms, a greenhouse and a backyard strung with lights, where a single table can hold the whole evening. The menu leans Brazilian and Mexican and the drinks lean on mezcal and tequila. Order the shrimp tacos in soft flour tortillas, the salted peewee potatoes and the picanha with farofa. Book on Resy and ask for the backyard; weekend walk-in waits run long.
- 08
Oysters and steak frites on the patio
Café Paulette · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
A Parisian-style bistro since 2013 on the corner across from Fort Greene Park, with red leather booths, a marble bar and a big sidewalk patio heated through the winter. Walk the park first, then order oysters and steak frites with a glass of natural wine. In warmer months Tuesday nights bring live jazz. Book on Resy, or walk in for the patio.
- 09
Steak tartare and a low-intervention glass
Fradei · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
A few steps below South Portland Avenue, this tiny room somehow feels full of light. Clément Besset's French-leaning menu shifts every few weeks — crab toast, nettle and ricotta dumplings, a much-loved steak tartare — with a list of low-intervention European wines. Its tables fill with couples, so book on Resy; the bar seats are held for walk-ins.
One more glass
Natural wine, good bread and a whisky room at the back.
- 10
House sourdough with chili honey butter
Bar Heretic · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
A new natural wine bar on Clermont Avenue, a block off DeKalb, where the bread gets as much attention as the bottles. Order the sourdough with chili honey butter alongside a Sicilian orange or a chilled red, and end with the brown butter chocolate chip cookie. It works as a first stop or a nightcap. It is walk-in, and you can ask for a loaf to take home.
- 11
Anchovy toast and a natural wine
Rhodora Wine Bar · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
A small zero-waste wine bar on a quiet residential corner of Adelphi Street, from the group behind Rucola and Purslane. The staff enjoy steering you toward a bottle from a small farm you would not have picked yourself. Take a sidewalk table with anchovy toast, burrata or crab dip. There are no reservations, and the events page lists its frequent food pop-ups.

Oysters at Walter's, then whisky and karaage at Karasu
Walter's · FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN
A neighborhood restaurant on DeKalb with a raw bar and simple classics, the Fort Greene sibling of Walter Foods in Williamsburg. The date move is at the back: Karasu, a dimmer Japanese-style bar for whisky, cocktails and karaage. Have oysters and deviled eggs up front, then walk through for a nightcap. Book on the official site, or walk in for the bar.
Every kitchen here was confirmed open as of 2026-10-19. Menus change — confirm a dish is on before you make the trip.
