Where to Eat

Date Night in Williamsburg: Romantic Restaurants and Bars (2026)

A two-star Nordic tasting menu, dry-aged duck in an old limestone bank, natural wine on Grand Street and oysters in a vine-draped garden — where to take a date in Williamsburg, from dinner to the last drink.

Williamsburg can carry a whole date inside a few blocks. Toward the river, the hotel rooftops on Wythe Avenue and North 12th Street look straight across the water at Manhattan, and the skyline turns gold around sunset. Inland, Bedford Avenue and Grand Street are lined with candlelit wine bars, oyster bars and small, close dining rooms, and some of the hardest tables in Brooklyn sit in a former warehouse, an old auto-body shop and a converted limestone bank.

The picks below follow the shape of an evening: a dinner for the big occasion, a longer and looser meal, then drinks, music or dessert to finish. Most are a short walk from the L at Bedford Av or Lorimer St, the J, M and Z at Marcy Av or the G at Metropolitan Av. Booking rules vary a lot here — Aska's tasting menu is prepaid, Lilia's tables go fast on Resy, and St. Anselm and The Four Horsemen keep seats for people who come early — so check each page before you go.

For a celebration

Anniversaries, birthdays and the dinner you want to remember — book these well ahead.

  1. 01

Nordic tasting menu with the wine pairing

    Aska · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

Fredrik Berselius cooks around fifteen courses from his Swedish roots and Northeastern ingredients in an all-black former warehouse near the South Williamsburg waterfront, with about ten tables set around the open kitchen. It holds two Michelin stars, and the staff's enthusiasm keeps the evening from turning solemn. The menu is prepaid through OpenTable, so save it for the occasion and take the wine pairing.

  2. 02

A martini and the soufflé cakes with caviar at the bar

    Francie · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

A glamorous brasserie in a converted limestone bank on Broadway, where waiters in white blazers carry dry-aged duck on beds of flowers past big booths. The whole duck feeds three or four, so a couple does well at the bar with martinis, the little sourdough loaf with whipped lardo and the soufflé cakes. Book through OpenTable via the official site.

  3. 03

Mafaldini with pink peppercorns, and one more pasta than seems sensible

    Lilia · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

Missy Robbins's pasta restaurant fills a former auto-body shop on Union Avenue with white brick, big industrial windows and a wood-fired grill working in the open, and the corner catches low evening light. Service is warm rather than hushed. Tables go fast on Resy, so aim for the earliest seating; if the books are full, the attached Caffè is the gentler way in.

  4. 04

The butcher's steak at the counter

    St. Anselm · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

A narrow brick-and-wood room on Metropolitan Avenue with maybe eight tables and a long counter facing the grill, like a cabin upstate that wandered into Brooklyn. Order the butcher's steak over the pricier cuts, with pan-fried mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and a chocolate pot de crème. Book on Resy or by phone, or come early for a walk-in counter seat; weekend waits run long.

A long dinner

Rooms for sharing plates, opening a bottle and losing track of time.

  1. 05

Whatever is newly open by the glass, with small plates at the bar

The Four Horsemen · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

James Murphy's narrow, wood-lined natural-wine bar on Grand Street holds a Michelin star and a James Beard Award for its wine program, yet still runs like a neighborhood room: close tables and a hum rather than a scene. Sit at the bar and let the staff choose the wine. The room is small, so reserve ahead or arrive at opening for bar seats.

  2. 06

Whole trout and the half eggplant with amba, with salatim for the table

Laser Wolf Brooklyn · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

Israeli skewer-house cooking over open fire on the Hoxton's roof, with the Manhattan skyline past the terrace rail and servers in Hawaiian shirts. Pick a grilled main and the table fills with about a dozen small salads, garlicky hummus and warm pita; one fish and one vegetable main is right for two. Book on Resy for just before sunset.

  3. 07

Chor muang flower dumplings and the roast duck red curry with lychee

Kaew Jao Jorm · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

Thai royal cooking from the court of King Rama V, a minute or two from the Grand Street L: ornate, often sweeter food meant to be admired before it is eaten. Share the flower-shaped dumplings and the steamed crab custard, then one sweet curry and one hot one, and finish with mango ice cream over warm sticky rice. Reservations are on OpenTable.

  4. 08

Sake kasu challah, then matzoh ball ramen to share

    Shalom Japan · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

Aaron Israel and Sawako Okochi cook Jewish and Japanese side by side in one South Williamsburg corner room, and MICHELIN keeps it on its Bib Gourmand list. Order the challah with golden-raisin butter as soon as you sit down, then the okonomiyaki under wagyu pastrami and a bowl of the matzoh ball ramen to split. Check the official site for booking.

Drinks and something sweet after

Oysters in a garden, a skyline at sunset, a jazz band and a dessert bar to finish.

  1. 09

East Coast oysters and a martini in the garden

    Maison Premiere · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

A horseshoe marble bar, an absinthe fountain and waiters in waistcoats on Bedford Avenue, with a vine-draped garden out back that may be the most romantic bar seating in Brooklyn. Start with whichever East Coast oysters the bar recommends that day, then stay for another round. Book ahead for evening tables and ask for the garden.

  2. 10

Sunset cocktails on the west side of the terrace

Westlight (The William Vale) · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

On the 22nd floor of The William Vale, a glass-and-brass room and a wraparound terrace take in the midtown and downtown skylines in one sweep, and Andrew Carmellini's team makes the small plates better than rooftop fare. Weekends draw a dressed-up crowd; a weekday sunset is easier. Reserve for about an hour before sunset.

  3. 11

Oysters and a drink before the first set

    St. Mazie · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

A dark, intimate Grand Street bar with a New Orleans soul and live music most nights — swing and jazz, sometimes flamenco. It suits the evening you aren't sure is a date: order oysters, let the band carry the conversation and take the back patio when it's warm. Check the music calendar on the official site and arrive before the first set.

  4. 12

Weekend dessert flight with sake, or the green tea crème brûlée

    Patisserie Tomoko · WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN

Chef Tomoko's small Union Avenue shop brings French technique to Japanese desserts, with a glass case up front and a short dessert bar behind it. On weekends the bar serves a plated three-course flight of seasonal desserts paired with wine or sake. Book the flight through the official site; the case is walk-in, and the matcha crème brûlée goes home with you.
