Anémi is Astoria's new Greek hot spot, and our first pick for Greek food in Queens. It opened in the fall of 2025 inside the voco hotel on 31st Street, a block from the elevated N and W, and it cooks modern Aegean food rather than the taverna standards the neighborhood is famous for. Founder Georgios Kalosis came to Astoria from Greece and worked at Anassa Taverna before this; chef George Lambracos wrote the menu.

The room is the draw before the food arrives: a cozy bar up front with furniture brought over from Greece, then a larger dining room of sheer curtains, low light and detailed wall art. The menu is built for sharing. Start with grilled octopus, charred eggplant or zucchini chips, then split the kokkinisto (short rib in a light red sauce with mizithra), a whole grilled branzino with lemon emulsion and capers, or the lobster linguine. The cocktail list leans Greek too, down to a mastiha-and-espresso Kalypso.

Editor’s tip

Order for the table: octopus and charred eggplant to start, then the kokkinisto and a whole branzino to share, with a mastiha cocktail to finish.
