GRAMERCY & UNION SQUARE, MANHATTAN
Chim Chim
A small Thai bakery in Gramercy for slices of Thai tea cake, coconut pandan chiffon and other Southeast Asian sweets.
See current Google rating & reviews ↗A small Thai bakery on a quiet stretch of East 20th Street, where the cake case runs to Southeast Asian flavors you rarely find in a New York bakery: Thai iced tea, coconut pandan, butterfly pea, taro with salted egg and pork floss, sweet corn. It is mostly a takeout counter with a few seats, and the shop is as cute as the cakes.
Start with a slice of the rusty-orange Bangkok Thai tea cake, herbal and not too sweet, with a Thai coffee. Whole cakes, pies and trays of blondies are made to pre-order, from a coconut pandan chiffon to a five-layer butterfly pea and coconut jelly pie that needs a week's notice.
Editor’s tip
Take your slice and a Thai coffee to Stuyvesant Square, a few blocks away.
