NOLITA, MANHATTAN
Ferrara Bakery & Cafe
Little Italy's pastry-and-espresso stop since 1892, family-run for five generations.
See current Google rating & reviews ↗Ferrara has been on Grand Street since 1892, when Enrico Scoppa and the opera impresario Antonio Ferrara opened Café A. Ferrara so that opera lovers had somewhere to drink espresso and play scopa, a Neapolitan card game, after a night of Verdi or Puccini. The family still runs it, five generations on, and it is the classic Little Italy pastry stop.
Go for an espresso and a cannoli at the counter, or sit down with a sfogliatella when your feet need a break. It is right off Mulberry Street, so it slots into any stroll through the neighborhood.
Editor’s tip
Take your cannoli to go and eat it walking down Mulberry Street.
