CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN
Greyz Bistro
Jerk bao, oxtail ravioli and coquito creme brulee at a chef-driven Caribbean bistro on a Crown Heights side street.
See current Google rating & reviews ↗Set on a leafy, brownstone-lined block of St. Johns Place, Greyz Bistro is the kind of chef-driven neighborhood restaurant Crown Heights has been quietly building for years. The kitchen takes the Caribbean flavors that run through this part of Brooklyn, jerk, escovitch, saltfish, coconut and oxtail, and folds them into a bistro format with a few global detours: bao buns, ravioli, a ribeye off the fire. The house describes its approach as scratch cooking with seasonal ingredients and bold flavor, served with unhurried, attentive hospitality, and the room suits both an easy weeknight dinner and a small celebration. It is independent, personal and very much of its neighborhood.
Greyz was featured by the YouTuber New York Turk in 2026. From the dinner menu, start with the Jerk Bao Buns, the Oxtail Ravioli or the Saltfish Fritters, then go for the Whole Escovitch Red Snapper or the Jerk Glazed Hen, with sweet sliced plantains, coconut rice and the Greyz Mac and Cheese on the side. Save room for the Coquito Creme Brulee, a holiday drink turned into dessert. There is also a Sunday brunch menu and a drinks list, and the restaurant takes inquiries for larger groups. Note that it keeps a short week, opening in the afternoon from Wednesday through Sunday, so check the site before you make the trip.
Editor’s tip
Order the whole escovitch snapper to share and finish with the coquito creme brulee; come for Sunday brunch for a lazier pace.
