Jake's sits in a three-story limestone building on Broadway at the 242nd Street end of the 1 train, directly across from Van Cortlandt Park, and it celebrated 25 years in business in March 2026. Downstairs is a lively bar with the game on; upstairs, a wall of windows looks over the park's lawns. It is the northwest Bronx's place for a celebratory steak dinner, and the MICHELIN Guide has called it one of the borough's best steakhouses.

The beef is wet-aged in house and cut by hand. Order the porterhouse for two or the aged T-bone; any steak can be topped with Gorgonzola and a tangle of fried onions, which is how regulars do it. Chops and fresh seafood round out the menu, and the small, lively bar downstairs works for a burger and a game on your own. A second Jake's operates in East Meadow on Long Island, but the Bronx room is the original.

Editor’s tip

Ask for a table upstairs by the windows and order the porterhouse for two with the Gorgonzola and fried-onion topping.
