Nourish opened in August 2025 in the Alexander Avenue storefront that had been Chocobar Cortés, and it runs on an unusual model: it is owned by the Oyate Group, a Bronx nonprofit, and all of its profits go to the group's youth programs, scholarships and hospitality training. By day it is a café with coffee, snacks and a shelf of good pantry goods — olive oil, tinned fish, aged salami. At night chef Kyle Vereen takes over with a menu of shareable plates.

The cooking wanders the globe without losing its footing. Korean fried chicken, duck-fat biscuits, chicharrón and steak frites anchor the menu, with seasonal specials like ceviche, and the kitchen makes everything in-house. It keeps late hours for the neighborhood, which makes it a natural last stop after a walk past the brownstones of the Mott Haven Historic District a few blocks north.

Editor’s tip

Come for dinner with a group and share the Korean fried chicken and a round of duck-fat biscuits.
