Seabass Taverna opened at the Hylan Boulevard end of New Dorp Lane at the turn of 2025, a sibling of two Smith Street restaurants in Carroll Gardens, Verde and Levant. It is an Aegean-style fish house built for families and groups — the dining room seats around 80 — where the table fills with small plates before anyone decides on a main.

Begin with cold mezze — taverna hummus, tzatziki, eggplant salad, dolmades — and something raw, like oysters, littlenecks or a shrimp-and-seabass ceviche. Hot plates include grilled octopus, saganaki and spanakopita. Then pick a whole fish — branzino, dorado, red snapper — and have it grilled, or order the seafood board for two or four. Avgolemono, pastitsio and moussaka cover the Greek classics; baklava and hot halva close it out, with a mastika mojito from the bar. For a big appetite there is an all-you-can-eat 'endless dining' option.

Editor’s tip

Order three or four mezze for the table and share a whole grilled fish instead of individual mains.
