Wafels & Dinges (Bryant Park)
A liège waffle with spekuloos spread, from the truck that brought Belgian waffles to New York — now a Bryant Park kiosk.
Wafels & Dinges began as a single yellow truck selling Belgian waffles to New Yorkers who had never had a real one, and the brand has outlived most of the trucks it parked beside. Today its street-food spirit lives on in a handful of kiosks, and the one on the Sixth Avenue side of Bryant Park is the best place to meet it.
Order the liège wafel — dense, caramelized, studded with pearl sugar — and add the spekuloos spread, the cookie-butter 'dinges' the brand is named for. Take it into the park and eat it on one of the green chairs facing the lawn. In winter, the hot chocolate makes a good second argument.
Editor’s tip
Order the liège wafel with spekuloos and eat it in the park; during the Bryant Park winter market, the brand often runs a second stand inside it.
