LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS

The Noguchi Museum and Its Garden

Isamu Noguchi's own museum and sculpture garden in Long Island City, as quiet as a temple.

The sculptor Isamu Noguchi established this museum himself in Long Island City, and it still reads like an extension of his hand: galleries of stone, metal and wood sculpture, his paper Akari light sculptures, and an outdoor garden where his stone works sit among trees and gravel. The building is spare and the rooms are calm, which makes it one of the best places in the city to slow down and really look. Through November 1, 2026, the second-floor galleries are closed while the museum installs No Ordinary Light: Akari at 75.

There are no advance reservations; buy tickets when you arrive. General admission is $16, with seniors and students at $6, as of October 2026, and it is half price until November 1 during the installation; children under 12 and NYC public school students get in free. Admission is free on the first Friday of every month. Pair it with Socrates Sculpture Park, a short walk away on the waterfront, and arrive by the NYC Ferry's Astoria route or the N and W trains to Broadway.
